Earlier Jobs
    Hewlett Packard   Fort Collins Coloradoan

In the beginning of June, 1995 I began work at Hewlett Packard. They had seen some of the CGI work I had done, and I got hired as a high school employee (we were referred to as WEEPs, but I have no idea what that stands for). I did a lot of stuff there, from creating some programs to aid the development team I worked with to taking pictures of the staff for the department's web page. Fortunately most of the work was programming related, and therefore far more interesting than administrative duties, but I still got paid a weak $6.50 an hour. I left Hewlett Packard at the end of May, 1996, when work on the internet got to be too much for me to handle both jobs.

Although I enjoyed working at Hewlett Packard and got along with my co-workers, it helped me to realize I would prefer not to work for a large computer company when I get out of college, and instead start my own business or work for a small startup if possible.

Around the time I began work at Hewlett Packard I terminated my job as a local paperboy for the Fort Collins Coloradoan which I had held for three years. It may be hard for many of you who know me today to believe, but there was a period if my life, where, for three years I woke up almost every day before 6:00 AM. I enjoyed having a paper route, because it wasn't too much work and I could get it all out of the way and enjoy the rest of the day. I generally rollerbladed or biked my route, and threw many a paper up on the roof.

You can also read a pretty cool story about my entrepreneurial start as a little kid.
