Matt's Script Archive
MSA It all began on April 21, 1995, when I released the Guestbook program I had written on the web, from my K12 school district account. I slowly began adding more and more programs as the site grew in popularity, until I was forced off of that server because it was consuming too many resources. I moved to a couple of other providers over time, but finally decided on worldwidemart.com/scripts for the home of the creatively named Matt's Script Archive. (OK, so it's a lame name, but I didn't pick it. OK, I did, but I was young and naive!). Soon I was offering more than 20 free Perl and C++ CGI scrips for people to download and add to their site to make it more interactive.

As the popularity of the site grew (it currently receives over 300,000 unique visitors per month), I began to sell advertising on it to ISPs and others who were interested in getting their message across to web developers. It got to the point where I decided to incorporate into a business. So on January 1, 1997, Matt's Script Archive, Inc. went active.

Shortly after that, in March, 1997, I opened up The CGI Resource Index which was a categorized listing of hundreds of different CGI resources across the net. It's function was to answer the many questions I got each day of "Do you know where I can get this script?" It has now expanded to include over 2,200 resources in more than 200 categories and is more popular than my original site, bringing in over 1.75 million page hits each month.

In August, 2000 I released the second topic specific guide on The ResourceIndex.com Network, which focuses on a open-source server-side scripting language called PHP. The PHP Resource Index includes over 600 resources in more than 170 categories less than a month after being launched!

Matt's Script Archive, Inc. lets me pretty much work on my own schedule (I even took about 4 months off with hardly any work at the beginning of 1999, when I got bored), and so far has been doing well at selling advertisements on the web sites.

I always have lots of stuff in the works, but most of it only gets about halfway finished before I get bored and give up. That's the way I work. :)
